Hey, it’s just what you’ve always wanted: to use your Xbox 360 controller on your old NES. Using a Cortex M3 processor left over from a school robotics project, Francois Gervais managed to rig his wireless pad to control something decidedly less advanced than a game of Modern Warfare 2. There’s a video of the controller in action after the break, and you can grab some of the code being used in the Google link below — perhaps one of you brainiacs will finally hack the Wiimote to control a Jaguar. A tech writer can dream…

I love Battlegrounds. I think they all have their positives, though my favorite is still Alterac Valley. So I’ve been wanting to hold an It came from the Blog BG event for a while and I’ve decided it’s time… Time for the first Battleground Bonanza! Here are the details:
Though any Battleground level character is invited, I will be playing on Robinella, who is a level 60 Death Knight and will therefore be playing in the 60 to 69 range BGs. We will be forming groups and hitting as many level/group-size appropriate BGs as we can for an hour or so. If you can’t make it to the Hall of the Brave in time for the event, you will miss out on the first screenshot, but will still be able to participate. If you are unfamiliar with Battleground play, please do some homework so that it will be more fun for both you and your teammates.
More details are after the break.

Of all the shopping-heavy days in the year, two robbers in Maplewood, Missouri picked Cyber Monday as the likeliest day to do their “shopping” at GameStop in person. With a weapon.
St. Louis news service KMOX News reports that two mean armed with a handgun held up the Maplewood GameStop in Maplewood Commons at about 10:30 this morning. Nobody was hurt and the robbers took only money from the store.
I’m trying to decide if the robbers were using a strategy or not. On the one hand, it’s Cyber Monday — so there won’t be as many people in the store to potentially foil the robbery. But on the other hand, all the money from Black Friday is probably gone from the store and safely in GameStop’s bank account… so how much could they really make off with?
Either way, that’s two people getting coal in their stockings this Christmas…
Masked men rob Maplewood video store [KMOX News - thanks, Jason!]
Last we heard, Splash Damage‘s lovely looking squad-based futuristic shooter Brink was coming to the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC in the spring of next year. Unfortunately, it now appears a few more seasons-worth of polish will be needed.
G4‘s new video preview of Brink ends with a bit of bad news. The Bethesda Softworks-published game is now apparently due in the fall of next year, thinning the spring 2010 crowd by at least one.
While disappointing, after our positive impressions of the game from QuakeCon and E3 helped illustrate what makes Brink interesting, we’re always happy to see a game given a bit more time to incubate in the name of getting it right.

A bit late to the party, this latest installment of Brutal Legends’ Brutal Thoughts with Jack Black videos suggests you will excel at multiplayer by being the first to buy the game. Oh, and your mother is not a whore.
Strange that this video should be released after the game has already been out for nearly two months. Stranger still that it’s one of the more amusing installments, and might have helped a bit.

Want to crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentation of their women? Blood Sport investigates the entirety of all-things arena for gladiators and challengers alike. C. Christian Moore, multiple rank 1 gladiator, examines the latest arena strategy, trends, compositions and more in WoW.com’s arena column.
Listening music: Imogen Heap’s Hide and Seek. Imogen Heap is quickly making a name for herself as one of the most profoundly talented artists today. I’ve been surprised how often I’ve heard her music recently, as I had always presumed she would remain as an unrealized genius; an underground phenomenon. Her independent work is both euphoric and mentally stimulating. I am elated she has gained some notoriety, even if only within the past few years. Hide and Seek is one of those rare, almost one-of-a-kind tracks that has an incredibly strong gravity in its simplicity. The power of the minimalistic approach creates a forceful (but delicate) melody. Although I love some remixes (Tiesto’s is particularly intelligent, as the paradox of stripping away the essence of the song by adding unnecessary elements isn’t present, unlike in oh so many other remixes), the original is something akin to a Greek sculpture — beautiful in the nude.
Last Week: We discussed our hatred for Scrubby McDouche. Even if you’ve never stepped foot into an arena, you’ve probably played with someone who has the god complex thing going on. He always has an excuse for his shortcomings. He is never to blame for the raid wipe, game loss, or his sub-optimal play in any aspect whatsoever.
This week, we’re going to be examining the opposite kind of arena combatant. Playing with this individual is not just a good experience — it’s the reason many of us continue to play MMOs. She does everything in-game well, and has fun doing it. She is probably the best player you know, and certainly the most enjoyable to arena, raid, and level with. Today we’re going to discuss how to own it up in arena, both theoretically and realistically.
Check out what makes a good arena player tick after the break.

Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter comes out sometime in early 2010, Croteam and Devolver Digital announced today. I was going to make a pun, but the title of the game sort of precludes puns.
The First Encounter hit Steam in the last week or so and is due on Xbox Live Arcade very, very soon. The Second Encounter introduces a cooperative tournament mode for teams to compete against one another. The mode is getting some face time a the upcoming 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, China where players can compete for the Digital Youth Award.
Hopefully that means the game will be out before the World Expo so that you’ve got time to practice.
P.S. Sorry, no screens yet. You’ll just have to stare at a screen from The First Encounter instead.
French publisher Ubisoft, no stranger to waggle, is getting behind Microsoft’s Project Natal in a major way, with “around 10 games” planned for the Xbox 360‘s hands-free motion controller. And it has similar designs on PlayStation 3 motion controller support.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said during a financial earnings calls earlier today that the publisher expects 10 titles to “come for Natal during the first six months of the launch.”
“We expect four to five games for [Sony's motion controller],” Guillemot added. “That’s the picture at the moment. It can change in the next 12 months.”
When asked to clarify if that includes releases like the newly announced Prince of Persia game, Guillemot made clear just what those Project Natal and PS3 motion controller games would be.
Yves said that he “didn’t count the games that are supporting the new functions that those accessories will bring,” seemingly indicating that the number of titles that will be motion control ready, but not necessarily motion control-only could be larger.
Guillemot said the ten Xbox 360 titles and “four-to-five” PS3 titles were along the lines of “casual games that we are doing on those two machines” and consist of about “70% new property.”
With the Wii doing more harm to Ubisoft’s bottom line these days, the company’s reaffirmed “strategy of developing bigger franchises” will probably mean good things for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owner. That, or plenty of Imagine Babyz mini-games, now in mind-blowing high-definition.
